Size
The only show blanket with contour. In current production, the sizes Chiquita (approx. 32' x 38") and Twiggy (approx. 34" x 40") are in stock.

Why is the contour important?

A show blanket lies between the saddle and the liner. When you place a flat blanket on a contoured base, a fold needs to form somewhere to conform to the shape of the base. This creates a fold under the saddle. If a horse can feel a fly landing on its back, don't you think it can feel that spot too?

Is appearance important to you? Yes! Flat blankets will not stay in place on very contoured liners. As they shift under the saddle, the corners or ends of the liner often become visible. What use is the most beautiful blanket if the base is showing?

Our goal was simple...to develop a blanket that fits better and doesn't let the underlayment show!

Mission accomplished! Cuttinup Show Blankets are the only show blankets on the market where the contour is integrated into the pattern. This was not an easy task. These blankets have to be made on handlooms by skilled weavers to create the outline. This creates a slightly looser fabric that also gives a softer feel. Flat blankets are made using automatic looms, which create a tighter weave and a stiffer feel, but also allow for mass production with more detail and a faster, cheaper product. Cuttinup has created a more unique, handwoven product that simply fits better.

Which is the right size?

Twiggy has a size of approximately 34'' x 40'' and usually fits over standard liners. This is the most commonly used size. This size usually covers the liner completely without anything sticking out at the front or back of the liner. With some thicker liners you may occasionally see some flashing through.

Chiquita has a size of approximately 32'' x 38''. This size is chosen by most barrel racers because their saddles often have smaller skirts. However, this size is also preferred for horses with shorter backs. It's important to consider the size of the pad you want to use. Horses with shorter backs may also need a shorter base.

??Interesting note about this size.... Some barrel racers who have saddles with neoprene pads only use our padless blankets to have closer contact. The contour shape of our blankets allows for close contact without wrinkling under the saddle.

Caring for the cuttinup...

The best thing you can do for your blanket is to treat it with Scotchgard before use. Because, as with all blankets, there is no completely safe way to wash them, some colors may bleed if water runs over them. Sweat rarely causes this, but large amounts of fluid can cause it. We ship all blankets in a protective plastic bag that can be used for years. We recommend storing the blanket in this bag when not in use.
